May 24, 2017 - 2017 Occoneechee Event Canceled
Friends of Occoneechee Speedway,
The Historic Speedway Group has been forced to make the difficult decision to cancel the "Celebration of The Automobile and Racer's Reunion" event scheduled for this year on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
The event has been held very successfully for the past ten years on property near the track that is an industrial park. We had permission from the various business owners to use the parking lot. The property has recently been sold and construction has begun on the lot, leaving us without a location to hold our event.
The Historic Speedway Group has searched for a nearby venue at which we could hold our event, but we have been unable to locate a suitable place.
We will present our four "Honoree's" with plaques from the Historic Speedway Group at a later date and plan to continue the preservation of the Historic Occoneechee Orange Speedway property.
All of us at the Historic Speedway Group regrets having to cancel our event this year.
Lonnie Holt, President
Historic Speedway Group
